How to download social media videos on Android
Last updated:
To download a video on Android: copy the post link in the app, open VidFinch in Chrome, paste the link and tap Download. The file is saved in the Download folder. It shows up in Google Photos or Gallery under the Download album, and in the Files app → Downloads.
Step by step (Chrome)
- In the social app, open the post and copy its link (see the table below).
- Open Chrome and go to vidfinch.com. Tap the box, then tap Paste.
- Tap Download, then “Download video” (or image / GIF).
- Chrome shows “Downloaded” at the bottom of the screen. Tap Open to play it.
Where to copy the link in each app
| Platform | Where to copy the link | The link looks like |
|---|---|---|
| X (Twitter) | Share icon under the post → Copy link | x.com/user/status/1234… |
| Threads | Share (paper-plane icon) → Copy link | threads.com/@user/post/C9x… |
| Share → Copy link | pin.it/AbC… or pinterest.com/pin/1234… | |
| Bluesky | Share → Copy link to post | bsky.app/profile/name/post/3k… |
| “…” on the post → Copy link to post | linkedin.com/posts/…-activity-1234… | |
| Snapchat | Share on a Spotlight → Copy link | snapchat.com/spotlight/… or t.snapchat.com/… |
Where your downloads go
- Chrome: menu ⋮ → Downloads lists everything you downloaded.
- Files by Google (or your phone’s “Files” / “My Files” app): open Downloads.
- Google Photos: Library → “Download” folder (turn on backup for it if you want it in the cloud).
- Samsung Gallery: the “Download” album.
Samsung Internet and other browsers
Samsung Internet saves to the same Download folder; find files in My Files → Downloads. Firefox for Android: menu → Downloads.
If something doesn’t work
- Copy the link of the post itself, not of the profile, the board or the home feed.
- Paste the whole link. Extra text around it is fine: the tool finds the link.
- Make sure the post is public: open it in a private browser window without logging in. If you can’t see it there, no downloader can.
- Seeing “Too many requests”? Wait one minute and try again.
- If the post loads but the download button does nothing on iPhone, check Files → Downloads: the file is often already there.
- Chrome asks for storage permission on some older Android versions: allow it once.
Questions
Why don’t I see the video in my Gallery?
Some gallery apps only show the Camera folder by default. Look for the “Download” album, or open Files → Downloads.
Do I need to install an app?
No. Everything happens in the browser, and nothing is installed.
Can I share the video to WhatsApp after downloading?
Yes. Open it from Downloads or Gallery and tap Share. MP4 files work in WhatsApp, Telegram and every common app.
Is it safe?
VidFinch only downloads the media file from the platform’s own servers. There are no pop-ups, no APK files and no app to install.
